Yes, there are a lot of assholes out there (I consider thinking you are more important than anyone else as an asshole quality, then again, I come from a country where "socialism" isn't a bad word). It's why I'm not in any of those jobs. But just because we glamorise being an asshole doesn't mean being an asshole is a good thing to be nor that the kind of person who chooses to be an asshole when they were supposedly nice wasn't always an asshole to begin with.

He's saying there are parts of it that are good like the self-improvement aspects and being more pro-active, which is why it is somewhat successful. But he's also saying that there are definitely parts of it that are very bad like the obsession with anger, control, sexism, and abuse/coercion, which are at the core of its philosophy and can easily lead to a multitude of really bad consequences for everybody involved like what we see in the letter. It's not wrong to want the things you want (gf, wife, juggle 6 women at once, etc.), it's just the way these men go about it is dead wrong and their good qualities are far outweighed by the bad qualities.
